Graham Skender - wrought iron work

About Skender Iron

Graham Skender is intensely passionate about his work. The affair began at 15 when he was originally trained as a metal fabricator first class welder. He became a tradesman after completing a 4 year apprenticeship in this field.

Graham moved into the wrought iron industry and has spent many years working throughout Perth producing a wide variety of works from heavy gates and balustrades through to fine home furnishings.

In doing so he found he had a passion for forging iron and has had further training from renowned South West Blacksmith, Malcolme Paine. Malcolme is an associate of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths in the United Kingdom. It is through years of training with Malcolme and recommendations through the West Australian Blacksmith Association that Graham has received a second trade certificate as a blacksmith.

He established his own wrought iron business in Perth in 1993 and quickly gained a reputation for quality wrought iron work producing architectural iron works and furnishings for builders and furniture shops.

He and wife Lorraine, with their three children, made a lifestyle change to move to Yallingup in South Western Australia in 1999. They built their wrought iron business and home set on a 5 acre block with inspiring bush surrounds. The showroom was open to the public later in that year.

Graham´s work has been sold also through local art galleries and has been purchased by many overseas clientele.

Graham has recently finished a five year contract to fitting out the Laurance Winery in Yallingup and the Laurance private residence in Mosman Park, Perth with wrought iron hardware, gates, furnishings, chandeliers and security grills. All work was forged and fabricated in his Yallingup workshop. You can visit his workshop and showroom that has an array of works on display for purchase.
